The Lady Knights softball team won 7 of 8 games over their spring break trip this past week.
At Roane State CC, Harriman, TN:
OCC won the first game of the double header 12-4. Knights who collected multiple hits were Allexis Lemon (2-2, 3 RBI, 2B), Amber Miller (2-3, 2 R) and Samantha Ledbetter (2-4, 2 RBI, 2B). Bailey Walker (1-0) picked up her first collegiate win by throwing all 5 innings in the run-ruled game, giving up 0 ER on 3 hits, with 5 K's and 1 BB.
The Knights dropped the second game 10-6 despite out hitting RSCC 13-6. Sam Ledbetter led the way offensively with a 4-4 outing, including a double and a homerun, with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Tyler Allen, Chelsea Presley, Alexis Chapman and Kendra Jansen each collected 2 hits. Shana Marti took the loss (1-1) in relief of Allexis Lemon. The Knights gave up only 4 earned runs in the game.
At Southeastern Community College-Whiteville, Whiteville, NC:
After a practice session Friday afternoon in Myrtle Beach, the Knights drove up to North Carolina for a double header against SCC-Whiteville.
In game one, Bailey Walker picked up her 2nd win of the year (2-0), going 6 innings and giving up 6 hits, 7 runs (3 earned) while striking out 1 and walking 2. Allie Taylor picked up her first save by throwing the final inning, giving up only one hit. Offensively every Knight in the lineup collected at least one hit, led by Madison Doan going 3-4 with a double and 3 runs scored. Tyler Allen, Chelsea Presley and Allexis Chapman each collected 2 hits. OCC won 10-7.
In game two, Allie Taylor picked up where she left off and won her first collegiate start. Allie (1-0) went 5 innings, giving up one run on 4 hits while walking one. Olivia Harrelson dominated the last two innings for her first save, striking out 4 with one walk. Chelsea Presley (1-4, 2-run homerun) led the offense in the 5-1 win.
At North Myrtle Beach:
On Sunday the Knights played three games in perfect weather.
The first game against Jackson Community College (MI) was close early before the Lady Knights pulled away for a 10-0 win. Olivia Harrelson (2-0) got the complete game shutout, scattering 5 hits while striking out 8 and walking 2. Sam Ledbetter went 3-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI, while Chelsea Presley (2-4, double, 2 RBI), Allexis Lemon (2-4, double, RBI), Amber Miller (2-5, double, RBI), and Kendra Jansen (2-5, 2 RBI) all collected multiple hits.
The Knights won the second game against Jackson as well, this time 5-0. Shana Marti got the start, but only threw one inning after developing a headache. Shana got hit in the back of the head during a play at Roane St. and as a precaution was removed from the Jackson game. She is day-to-day with slight concussion-like symptoms. Bailey Walker (3-0) took her place and pitched the final 6 innings, yielding only 2 hits while striking out 6 and walking one. Sam Ledbetter, Kendra Jansen and Madison Doan each collected two hits.
The third game of the day was against Sinclair Community College (OH). Allexis Lemon (1-0) got her first win of the year by going 6 innings, giving up 3 runs (1 ER) on 7 hits, striking out 4 and walking 2. Allie Taylor picked up her second save by throwing a perfect 7th innings with one K. Kendra Jansen (3-5, double) and Rachael Kane (2-4, double) had multiple hits for OCC, which had 11 total in the 10-3 win.
At Myrtle Beach:
OCC took on GRAC and IECC foe Lincoln Trail in the first game on Monday. In a game in which OCC was walked 16 times and left 16 runners on base, the Lady Knights pulled out an 11-5 win. Sam Ledbetter (2-2, 2 RBI) and Alexis Chapman (2-3, double, 2 R) led the way offensively. Olivia Harrelson (3-0) got the win while Allie Taylor picked up her 3rd save of the year. Olivia gave up 5 runs (3 ER) on 6 hits, striking out 3 and walking 1.
OCC (9-1) was rained out on Monday night, and after experiencing a near 50-degree temperature drop on Tuesday, both of those games were canceled as well. The Lady Knights next play on Thursday, March 13 in their GRAC opener at Lake Land College beginning at 2 PM.
