Knights Finish Season 32-25

Knights Finish Season 32-25

The OCC softball team finished the 2014 campaign with a third place finish in the Region XXIV tournament. OCC finished fifth in the region standings, which meant traveling to the fourth place finisher, John A. Logan, on April 25 for first round play. OCC swept Logan, winning the first game 4-3 by scoring twice in the 7th inning before putting Logan away 11-0 in five innings in game two.

By eliminating Logan, OCC earned a spot at the region final four at Kaskaskia College. OCC opened up play by facing the #1 seed in the tournament, Wabash Valley, in game one on Friday May 2. OCC lost the contest 6-3 to fall into the losers bracket. #2 seed Lake Land then defeated the #3 seed Kaskaskia, putting KC in the losers bracket with OCC. In the first elimination game, OCC and KC took a 3-3 game into the 7th inning, where KC would score one run in the top half of the inning to take a 4-3 lead into OCC's bottom half. OCC got a lead-off single by pinch hitter Rachael Kane, then a bunt single by Sam Ledbetter to put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. A sacrifice attempt by Tyler Allen was denied when KC threw to 3rd base to get a force out of Kane. Chelsea Presley then stepped to the plate with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out and hit a bases clearing double to right center to win the game in a walk-off, 5-4. The win eliminated Kaskaskia and kept OCC's run alive.

Lake Land defeated Wabash Valley in the winners game on Friday, setting up another showdown with the Warriors on Saturday morning. OCC never got going, losing 9-0 and having their season come to an end with a 32-25 record.

Lake Land went on to win the Region XXIV Tournament by eliminating Wabash Valley in the next game.
