The OCC softball team opened up their 2017 season with two wins on the road at Brescia University in Owensboro, KY.
In the 9-2 game 1 win, the Knights had 15 total hits, though only one went for extra bases as KJ Royse hit a 2-out triple in the 5th inning. Freshmen Summer Roberts and Katie Kuester led the offense with 4 and 3 hits respectively. Sophomore Bailey Bruce picked up the complete game win, allowing 2 runs (0 earned) on 3 hits while walking 3 and striking out 2.
Game 2 was a little more exciting as the Knights held on for an 8-7 win despite giving up 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. Roberts added another 2 hits to her total, while sophomore Sam Perkins also had 2 hits and 2 RBI. Alyx Abbott added an RBI triple and Ashleigh Schable led off the 7th inning with a double. Jordan Dailey picked up the win, going six innings and giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits while striking out 6 with one walk. Jami Davis got the save, giving up 2 earned runs in the 7th.
The Lady Knights continue their season in North Myrtle Beach, SC from March 2 through the 6th.
