Dunn Leads OCC to Softball Split

The Lady Knights got two games in at the Northeast Mississippi Community College TigerFest Tournament on Friday, winning the opener 7-4 over Motlow State (TN) and falling 14-6 (6 innings) to Arkansas State in the nightcap. OCC decided the wind chill for Saturdays games (29 degrees and snow) wasn't safe for the players so they headed back home with a 1-1 record.

Game 1: OCC 7   Motlow St. 4

Game one saw redshirt sophomore Allie Dunn dominate for six innings, giving up 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 14 and walking 1.  The final three outs were harder to come by, but OCC hung in there to win 7-4. Haley Engelking and Molly Sheehan led OCC at the plate, with each collecting 2 hits and an RBI. Sheehan and Jessie Martin both had a double, while Cami Boylls had an RBI triple.

Game 2: OCC 6   Arkansas St. 14 (6 innings)

The second game of the day was a struggle for the Lady Knights, as pitchers had a hard time finding the strike zone and hitters had a hard time taking advantage of scoring opportunities. OCC pitching walked six batters and hit another 4, while offensively the Knights left the bases loaded in both the first and second innings, and stranded 13 runners total. Molly Sheehan went 4-4 on the day, while Haley Engelking was a HR away from hitting for the cycle (3-4, 2 RBI). Bailey Springmeyer hit the teams first HR, a 3-run shot in the 4th inning.

OCC is back in action in Burlington, IA at Southeastern Community College Indoor Tournament. They open up against McCook Community College at 11am on February 25.
