Blue Knights Hot Shooting Too Much For #1 Vincennes

OLNEY - The Blue Knights connected on 67% of their shots in the second half and 56% for the game as they beat #1 Vincennes on Wednesday night in The Dungeon.  Olney Central moves to 13-2 overall and 4-1 in GRAC play.

The Blue Knights saw themselves trailing 41-38 at the break as they traded baskets the majority of the first half.  The Blue Knights shot 49% in the first half and the Trailblazers shot 50%.  Both teams connected on (5) five three-pointers each.

5'10 sophomore point guard Jalen Moore paced the Blue Knights with (21) points, 6'4 sophomore guard Nick Walker had (20) points which all came in the second half, 6'3 freshman guard CE Talton had (12) points, 6'5 freshman forward Cobie Montgomery chipped in (10) points, 6'5 freshman forward JJ Kalakon finished with (9), 6'8 freshman forward Elijah Farr (6), 7'1 redshirt-sophomore Jason Cudd and 6'3 sophomore guard JT Wheeler each had (5).

The Trailblazers were led in scoring by 6'0 sophomore guard Chuka Mekkam with (25), 6'6 sophomore forward Kevin Osawe (17), 6'7 sophomore center Chinedu Okanu (14), 6'5 freshman forward Christian Wells (7), and 6'4 sophomore forward Michael Rogers (4).

The start of the second half saw the Blue Knights turn the ball over and Mekkam connect on a midrange jumper to make it 43-38 Vincennes.

Walker answered with a three-pointer to make it a one possession game at 43-41.

Osawe followed that with a traditional three point play to make it 46-41 Trailblazers.

The Blue Knights then went on a 16-0 run over the next 4 minutes and 15 seconds as Walker connected on (2) three-pointers, Farr & Moore made (1) three-pointer each, Kalakon connected on a free throw line jumper, and Talton hit two free throws.  The score was now 57-46 with 13:42 to go in the game.

Wells split a pair of free throws for Vincennes to pull within 10, but Farr connected on his second three-pointer to make it 60-47 Olney Central.

Okanu scored on a post move the next possession, but Walker hit another three-pointer to keep the momentum rolling for the Blue Knights.  Okanu scored on a dunk the next possession, but Olney Central still led 63-51 with 12:10 to go.

The Blue Knights led by 20 points (76-56) with 5:20 to go after Walker went 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.

The final score was 88-67 in favor of Olney Central.

The Blue Knights connected on (17) three-pointers for the game (17-35) for 49%.  Moore (6), Walker (6), Talton (2), Farr (2), Wheeler (1).  The Blue Knights were also (9-12) from the line for 75%.

The Trailblazers connected on (25-64) total field goals for 39%.  They were (8-20) from three which was good for 40%.  Vincennes were (9-17) from the foul line for 53%.

Head Coach Mike Burris on the win - "Really proud of our total team effort and toughness tonight.  We weren't hesitant in what we were trying to accomplish offensively.  We got the ball where it was supposed to be and we made shots.  I'm really proud of our guys.  We battled them inside and rebounded it collectively.  We had a togetherness tonight and it showed."
